This is the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, very near to the main visitors centre. I remember driving back into the park and searching for a good vantage point away from the crowds that were gathering to watch the sunset. In the end, I had to settle for a less than ideal location in order to set up my tripod. At this time most of the crowd were photographing into the canyon but the high levels of contrast were making images very difficult to capture. I started to look around for alternative compositions and noticed this tree bathed in the most amazing light. As the sun set the light became more and more intense until it created this amazing scene. I feel very lucky to have captured this image that evening.
