APW Gallery
Has anyone had dealings with the APW Gallery in NYC? Or even heard of it? Are they legit?
I googled it, and they seem to be all over the web, and are apparently a physical Fine Art Gallery (not an online gallery)...
Anyway, I got a generic looking email, that said they ran across my art online and invited me to submit up to five drawings for an upcoming juried exhibit (submission fee $50.00).
What ‘cha think????? :-)
Thanks,
Rhonda

I’d ring them a couple of times and see how professional they sound. You could also look up their address on Google Earth and check their location is legit.
It’s certainly unusal to get a random invitation from a gallery you’ve never dealt with before. Hmmmm…
How have you been?

I got the same today and find it rather strange.

My sister sent artwork for an exhibition there in March. I visited. It is not a good deal for an artist. We went on a good weather Saturday afternoon and there were 4 other people in the hour and a half we were there The gallery is in a lousy location. It is remote from Manhattan, There is no one walking past. It takes a real effort to reach it and there is nothing else to see or do nearby to make the trip worthwhile.
Additinoally, although the art was to be returned by the gallery according to the instructions they requested, and return shipping was pre-paid, it never showed up.
The gallery is run to generate income for the owners at the expense of the artist. I would be very surprized if distant artist got paid for items that were sold.
Bottom line
A scam, rip off.
As the bloke above says – spend you money at the pub.
