Want to Explore Writing?

Lamenting the loss of the Explore page? Well it is not really gone … in the sense of having the ability to access those Explore search features that I enjoyed, such as “recent photography” or “recent writing”.
Search for “recent photography”, ( type that minus the quotes into the search box and hit enter).
Note at the upper right of that display of photo images the three buttons: Featured, Recent and Popular, with the last being a “drop down” with three options: 7 Days, 30 Days and All Time Popular. Pressing any of those buttons initiates a search placing the search keywords into the search box:…

What about Writers"? Search for recent writing, and I know some who make a habit of finding re

Halloween Girls

More from the holiday, during Halloween season. We had fun walking in the evening around the neighborhood to see the home decorations. I just walked with them to share, not photograph, but here they are dressed up for a party. This happened as we arrived, 2 hours late, thank to US Airlines misplacing the checked luggage just below the carousel. Rather a waste of that $50 charge to handle it… So anyway Natalie is getting her hair finished “on-set” by the hippie lady, (mum).

Holiday with Family

Had a 10 day Holiday/Vacation to Phoenix, Arizona to see family.
Thought I’d share a few images of my grand-daughters, Natalie and Vanessa.
I used a borrowed camera, Canon EOS 1D Mark II with a borrowed 50mm 1.8 prime lens. Pretty happy with it.

Natalie is in Kindergarten now and loves it.

Vanessa is just a couple months under 3 years, and brilliant, obviously. I love how her hair flew in these.
Mum, Amie is in background.

At the Zoo on the merry-go-round ride.

Zoo wildlife at the stream.

The weather was warm and sunny. Shorts, short-sleeve shirt and flip/flops weather.
Today at home in Western Colorado, cool, light rain turning to snow later.
Nights have been below freezing. And most of all, I miss them… ;(

Images in the SMOKE!!

This is what I did. There are no secrets… There are different ways and ideas, of course, but I think the better images come from using electronic flash as the light source, but not from the camera position, rather from the sides. I know that eliminates using many types of cameras, but you, or I, want to put a lot of light on the smoke, but keep it off the backdrop and lens surface. The backdrop is black fabric, and you need to keep the light from spilling onto either the lens front, or the backdrop, so I made a hood from cardboard, with black tape covering inside and out, and with a slit where I could insert bits of translucent plastic, since I had red, blue, amber and yellow at hand, the idea being to throw a little color onto parts of the smoke.

Featured Portfolio - Grand Valley Magazine - February

As a result of a RedBubble home page feature recently, which I showed to several friends, I was invited to submit photography to Grand Valley Magazine . I gave a few images from my RedBubble upload folder, and was selected for the February Issue Portfolio section. That issue arrived at my door on Friday. I am very pleased with the result and would like to share it. I obtained permission from the publisher to post the six pages with a link back to their Web site. This magazine is published here in Western Colorado, and at near 100 pages, is chock full of articles and pictures about people, places, and things in the area. See GrandValleyMagazine.com on the web. It is available in Newsstands and by subscription.…

Visited Family in AZ

We took a 12 day Holiday visit with our son and family. It was not a sightseeing photo trip, but a time to be together. I did however manage a few pictures of our two granddaughters, Natalie, a couple months shy of 5 years, and Vanessa, a couple months shy of two years old.
