I hope my application for child benefit is accepted! by

It seems to be one of the most prolific years in a long time for baby frogs. Today is warm, and I lost count after 50 in one small pond. There are 22 in this picture, plus one rather bemused-looking adult watching them.

Each ‘froglet’ is about 2cms long and would fit on my thumbnail.

Exmoor, UK, July 2013.

    Astonishing shot! Congratulations.

  • Thanks for the very kind comments, Bette, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many in one spot together, and as you know, and a bit of a ‘pond fanatic’! Just nice to know the eggs survived the frost and this is now the progression!!!
    All the best,
    Dave ;-)

Or “Now, children, if you look to your right you will see the home of David James, who built this pond.” Wonderful shot! Surely by the end of summer there won’t be that many, will there? Not enough food to go around.

  • Hi, Christina, I think birds and other small predators will have reduced the numbers by the end of the summer, but they will soon wend their way away from the pond, hopefully finding somewhere cool and damp to inhabit they won’t all stay in the pond, very few will eventually. Best not tell them my home is right next door, I’ll have dreams of being woken up by 50 small frogs leaping up and down on my duvet……..if they were soft and furry it might be different ;) Glad you like them in their present abode!
Good times, and to Raddie and Kellie,
    Dave ;-)

OK…I’m so tempted to start singing….“We are family”……hi! hi! You offer the most brilliant captures Dave…your garden has such a variety of little creatures! a real pleasure each time! Going to see Chicago and CCR tonight…outdoors concert…and it’s a sunny 31 degrees here in Montreal today…should be fun! Have a great weekend my friend! xx

  • Hello my friend, yes that son would fit really well!!……….glad you like this one……..whoa..Chicago live and outdoors, wonderful, defintely sounds like a “Saturday in the park”!!! …..excellent group……like The Eagles and their reunion tour, they are one of the few that can still deliver best quality ;-) Although The Stones at Glastonbury last week surpassed expectations…which was very nice!….hmmm…I wonder if these little frogs will like rock, or perhaps they’ll be part of the ‘boy bands with short trousers’ brigade……I hope not!
Hope the gig was excellent, outdoors always adds an extra magic to an event,,doesn’t it!….
