Speckled Wood butterfly by Rivendell7

Currently unavailable for purchase

First butterfly capture of this spring season, which has been very late this year. I’ve seen a couple of Orange Tips, Brimstones and Peacocks, but all flying pretty rapidly, quite probably to keep warm!

This one is a woodland butterfly, posing today despite the wind. Nice to see the start of the butterfly season!

Exmoor, UK. May 2013.

The detail is spectacular, Dave – every little hair is so clear. What a gorgeous creature and a sign that maybe – maybe – warm weather is coming!

  • Touch wood warmer weather is coming now, friend, the last two days have been very good. Hopefully more butterflies (my favourites) soon.
    All the best,
