“Daunting”. How many people may have defined the tasks God placed on great leaders of Christendom with just this one word, I wonder? How big is our God? Sometimes God does call us to small tasks as we learn the responsibility of being faithful in the little things and He expands our territory as we grow responsible and obedient in the little tasks we do for Him. He shows us the bigger picture and grows us into it season after season of our lives. People are important to Him. Justice is important to Him, equality is important to Him – all which we lack in the communities we live in. He wants to free the oppressed, He wants to cast open the prison doors, to set the bound free. He is freedom. How colossal and daunting the task is to tell humanity there is freedom, there is justice, there is equality in Jesus. Yes it is daunting, from the human perspective, but God is bigger and able to do much more than we can imagine through tiny vessels such as us. Only if we are willing to step out of the boat and take that step of adventure with Him. Yes even faith as tiny as a mustard seed is daunting. Everything about God is nothing short of daunting. He can accomplish all of this on His own, but He invites us on this great big adventure, to invest in a worthier living than living for ourselves. To invest in broken lives. To invest in those who need a simple word of encouragement. Hope goes a long way. To invest in being agents who bring transformation into people’s lives. What is your life worth at the end of the day if you have only toiled only to feed your own belly? God’s call is outward. If the entire human race did their part in their own communities, perhaps there would be no humanitarian crisis on our hands. No famine, no poor, no hungry, no needy, no homeless. Only abundance. Let it be on earth, as it is in Heaven.
