My interest in photography grew out of my scientific curiosity regarding optics and chemistry, but soon took on a life of its own as I started to really SEE the world. in a new way. Research scientist, biomedical and aerospace engineer, science teacher, photographer, mechanic and vending machine repairman …I have been on a life-long “Journey on the Road-to-Find-Out”. I am drawn to “landscape” or scenic photography and also the delicate art of capturing decisive fleeting moments.
As a youngster, I gained experience in working environments as diverse as Crawdaddy Magazine, Modernage Custom Darkrooms, and the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. Later, as a research engineer and scientist, I pursued interests in visual research at Rockefeller University, and space imaging systems with General Electric, in Pittsfield, MA.
Starting with black and white film and a basement darkroom, I have enjoyed the exciting evolution of digital photography as an incredibly powerful tool. My photography covers a time frame of almost 50 years. While my earlier work covers more historical subjects (informal portraits of Salvador Dali, construction of the World Trade Center, the destruction of Penn Station), much of my current work is aimed at developing precise creative control of color and light in natural settings.
I am a passionate advocate of interdisciplinary education and had the good fortune to experience Project Based Interdisciplinary Education at Bergen County’s Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology prior to my tenure at Pierson High School . My career reflects my passion, including experience in science and engineering, education, project management, music production, and photography (and a few more…).
Since my retirement for health reasons in 2005, I have devoted my time to rebuilding my strength enabling me to continue being of service to my community, while also developing my unique style of visual expression.
