I have a gorgeous old Cannon Super 8 Camera…. I know its a different format, but one I love all the same. To shoot anything on it costs a fortune and I need a projector to watch it (which I don’t have) anyway…. I have no intention of getting rid of it however.
Couple of months back, I just picked up an old RB67 … I know, its different Lomo and Holga. But still … old and dusty … but I just love when I hear shutter goes off … definitely different feel … :P Won it on an online auction site by SA govt … for $350, with 2 lenses, 2 backs, and many other goodies come with it :D … it is quite a bargain.
The blad sound is as good as it gets for me ! I don’t have one right now, but I’m sure it’s not long … I can borrow a few anyway if I need a fix. That and the sound of mechanical shutters in my large format lenses… Whirrrrrrr Click – and like magic another image is made… it doesn’t seem like enough for all the fuss of setting up the camaera, loading the back and making a shot.
Grab yourself a seat and ebay for Yashicamat 124G. One of the best TLRs, that didn’t come with a Rollei nameplate (or price). The meters all take mercury batteries so don’t bother trying to find one with a working meter, its not worth it. If you can get one with a set of front hoods then its well worth it, the front elements are rarely coated enough to prevent serious flair.
RBs are nice for studio setups but too BIG and heavy to handhold I like how you can rotate the back for vertical or horizontal shots, but also causes some backs to leak.
I started with a holga, Yashica C, then a bronica ETRSi, finally mamiya 7 (finally no clunk n slap)!! I still have all of them….Well I still own them but they are all out on loan
Bring on 5×4… but I cant make myself pay too much for something that is essentially a big bellow :S. Lenses are cheap enough though.
The largeformat lenses SEEEM cheap, until you want a wide, or a nice telephoto … like all camera lens systems – the normals are cheap ! Mind you, all that film based secondhand stuff has got very affordable. I’ve seen full RB kits in a local camera joint for $399AUD – a student special… amazing really.
You all speak the truth, the blads, bronies and yashi’s are wonderful things. I was wondering about older less refined stuff. Items made for the the general public as “snappers” a couple of descades ago… anyone?
