Earning a living ....

This used to be a very popular sight in the UK. Narrowboats were powered by a horse to transport coal, steel, textiles, etc. between towns and cities. In this case however, tourists are the cargo. Oh, I can assure you that a guy was walking behind this horse, although you cant see him. If you look close you can see that the horse has a mouthful of greenery that it’s picked up on the journey …..

Very nice Richie..brings back pleasant memories and times gone by when life was calmer…and in my own point of view a lot better

  • richiedean replied

I spent a week on a narrowboat when I was a lad. My school rescued it from the bottom of a canal !! It was restored during craft lessons. I really enjoyed the trip, operating locks and using the barge pole when stuck etc., we even swam in the canal !! Unfortunately we didnt have a horse to pull us, just a diesel engine …... Cheers eddie …. !!

    Hi Richie,
When I was young ( good memory ) my brother actually drove ( can’t think of the right word ) a long boat on the Grand Union canal in Hertfordshire. I was banned from it ( my mother thought it was too dangerous on the water ) but like all kids off I went and had many a great day and swam in the canal…mother found out once, got a good hiding ( one of many ) but it was just great.
