Aloha Sharon, the glow of the path is trodden down grass which tends to turn yellow compared to the succulent ( frequently rained on ) grass that surrounds it. The bridge is around 150 years old, horses used to drag narrowboats along this canal and wear from the rope can be seen on the far edge of it ! At this point the water is about 2 metres deep but canals can go uphill …..... to achieve this feat they have to go through a series of locks have a look here Thank you …...... :))
