Sakuhachi sensei Hideyuki Ueno has already given me one award-winning photo Fingers crossed… I am hoping this second image might again win me something.
I had taken maybe over 200 images of him and his two co-players over two performances. And I only “discovered” this image last night when I was preparing for the photo essay, The Sounds of Silence over at jpg magazine.
Initially I had another image in mind, of him holding the sakuhachi at waist level and looking very solemn as he prepared to play. But I think this close up is much better – and more to my “uptight” style.
Image captured at Tapestry, a festival of sacred music, at The Esplanade, Singapore in March 2009.
