Hands in prayer
I have been going through my old photographs as I work on a book project. And I uncovered some some treasures that I had ignored – like this image of a Hindu devotee praying at Thaipusam 2007.
I had initially just skipped over this image. It seems too dark, but hey, what’s wrong with dark images?
For this I have to thank fellow Red Bubbler / JPGer Carl W. Nunn whose images are predominantly dark and great-looking. He got me to reconsider some of my overly dark images and see the value in them.
Another thing I initially did not like about this image was the blue colour (from incense smoke, should have been white or light grey) in the top background. Looking at it again, I think the blue adds a nice mood.
Thank goodness this was shot on slides. If it was digital, I would probably have deleted it already!
The “missed” part of this image is that there is actually a Christian cross on the gold chain but it is blocked by the hands. Otherwise, this would have been another cross-religious image like The Cross

BTW The focus on the hands is deliberate as I am somewhat of a hands photographer. Love to draw attention to the hands.
