Frenzied preening
It started with Evil Eyes
That really stirred my interest in bird photography and I went back again to the Jurong Bird Park a second time in eight days, hoping to take more unusual bird portraits like that one.
Previously, I had been there only twice in 30 years! Then about a week later, on August 10, I went a third time and decided to buy myself a season pass.
My reward was this image of a crowned crane frenziedly preening itself. I must say this is one image that I am extremely proud of.

An so you should be it’s fabulous.. so hard to get the defination you have on these black feathers.
richardseah replied
Thanks for the compliment, Mary.
I did not think much about it but yes, you are right – it’s normally hard to get such definition on black feathers or other black / dark objects.
But I cannot take credit for this – just set my camera on Auto and fired away. I think the credit here should go to my Fuji S5 Pro. It does a great job in situations like this :-)
Mary Campbell
Good to know. If I ever want another camera I’ll keep that in mind.
richardseah replied
Yup, the Fuji is a much under-appreciated camera. I have loads of pages on its virtues at my website art-photograph-gallery
Even the cheap Fuji point and shoot cameras produce excellent images.
Anne Smyth

Thanks so much Anne. Did you come across this from the waterfowls perspective challenge?
