While I mostly do photography, I had taken arts all through high school, and even studied in Fine Arts for a year at university, and simply love creating in all types of media. I had always had a decent level of success with painting, but the continuous cost and mess of painting at home always deterred me from moving forward. I also tended to get too fussy with fine details, trying to be precise with a medium that best works more loosely and freely.
But, with tube of paint sitting on my shelf for over a year, I sucked up my apprehension and fear of a mess and jumped in. This was the result. I’m quite pleased with it, considering it’s been over three years since I’ve painted anything aside from my bedroom walls. I decided to use a butter knife instead of a brush to instantly get rid of any chance of being too precise, and turned out with a very richly textured image. I also managed to do it in three hours, instead of a usually meticulous three weeks.
The canvas is 18 by 24 inches, slightly tighter crop on this image though.
