With one hand wrapped around my neck, I watched her head, resting softly on my chest, rise and fall with each incoming and outgoing breath. At our side was a fire run cold, and a brisk wind now blew through the air; we had only each other and our towels for warmth as the ocean softly sang us out lullaby. As we both laid there beneath the sea of stars, in the calm and dead of night, I watched in silence as the cycle was completed – one day over, and another just begun. And with the universe overhead, shining brightly as if just for us, I felt it there for the first time, the feeling of being so small and insignificant, yet all at once so big and important. And as I closed my eyes, turning out our grand night light, for the very first time in my life, everything felt so perfectly perfect.
