However over-shot it may be, no one can leave Paris without a photo of the Eiffel Tower. Originally built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in France, a World Fair that was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the French Revolution, the tower has become a symbol of both Paris and all of France. Having survived both World Wars, Nazi occupation, and it’s original 20 year contract of existance, the Eiffel Tower is now arguably the best known landmark in the world.

The eleven stars that adorn the tower at the moment and in this photo are in place to represent not only the European Union, but the fact that, at the moment, France is the ruling body of the EU for the set four year term.
