The Atlas Of Dreams - Color Plate 130 by

Turning the pages of the Atlas, you are confronted by an image of… a flower. It’s a strange sort of flower admittedly, seemingly defended by a cage of spikes. Also, you’re not sure what’s going on in the background. There also seem to be little electrical discharges going on overall… But still, it’s just a flower unmalevolently sitting there being pretty. There aren’t even any bees. After all the strange plates you’ve seen in the Atlas, this is such a nice change that you consider just leaving the bookmark here and curtailing your explorations. Still, curiosity will probably trump the possibility of disturbing dreams…

“Color Plate 130” combines a photograph from stock.xchng member “hummel_12”: and a painting created by my father, Gus Maier.

While having a strong background in photography and traditional printmaking, Richard Maier has mostly worked as a digital artist since the mid-90’s. His abstract and non-representational work tends toward a lush color palette and stark design, often filtered through the lens of chaos and noise. The natural world, as both the microcosm of biology and the macrocosm of space, is his favorite subject matter. He strives to create art that is both visually pleasing and intellectually fascinating.
