Eye Folly by Rhoufi

Hiding its face behind the buildings Melbourne’s ill-fated “Eye” attempts to pull itself back together again. What makes human beings stubbornly continue with their follies after so many signs of catastrophe have been sent their way?

What a zinger! That gold is singing very sweetly. Quite breathtaking!

  • Thank you Georgie, not to mention the fog horn that boat blasted in our ears when waiting for a table a “va bene pizza”. I found the surrounds more interesting than the fireworks!!

    Beautiful chaos!
…or is this a ship escaping a mad world? Yes, the background could stand alone, even.

  • Thank you Margot :-) You’re right of course. This area used to be the working docks and has been upgraded with glitz and glamour. But underneath you sense the chaos of new development and the marketing trying too hard – it’s a tourist precinct now and the fireworks were designed to draw the crowds. For me it was the “shy eye” hiding behind the buildings. You can read the story in the links. It’s fallen down twice through bad design and construction – now it’s just a joke. Lovely to see you here. You can see I’m trying to get back here more.

    Wow……..this is exquisite!
Melbourne’s Eye? Just looked that up. It’s a Ferris wheel? And they closed it? Gosh, I’ll bet birds are loving it as a perch.

  • Hi Robin :-) It’s actually called the "Southern Star Observation Wheel (SSOW – Sow for short, but not for long) but everyone knows it’s a wannabe London Eye. I don’t think the birds would risk sitting on it – it’s fallen down twice (not completely – I’m joking) – the original design was faulty. But they seem to be intent on rebuilding it. Thanks for your visit. Love your recent painting :-)
