Kraken Architeuthis, the giant octopus, housed in its reinforced pressure tank four stories high, blinks hungrily through one of Captain Nemo’s four portals at scurrying mariners crossing the gangway on the northbank of the Yarra.

I dont know, I’m pretty sure I see a tentacle easing towards her hood with sinister intent…
Love this image Rhoufi, brilliant shapes and composition!

I’ve met the Kraken’s little cousin, but not Kraken himself sadly, although he probably is disturbingly intelligent and possibly skilled at mind control…

  • That’s an awesome photo Georgie; that evil eye checking us out! Is it in the aquarium? And the colours are wonderful – another from your “hidden archives”. Thanks for the visit.

Fantastic shot mate! Love your composition and great timing!

  • Thanks Andrew, I wasn’t quite in the right place and the 135mm wasn’t really long enough, but there they were and you have to take when the time’s right. Thank you.

Yep this guy was in the Melbourne Aquarium in 2010, but probably gone now as they don’t have very long lifespans. They’re extremely smart though.

  • With that many legs you’d have to smart, I have trouble coordinating 2!!

Lol, there’s nothing sadder or more frustrating than an unused imagination! Wonderful story telling, Rhoufi, and a very good photo to go with it. I don’t think I’ve seen this one in passing. Sigh!

  • So true Jan, thank you. Most of the time I miss photos because the drama is lost in the surrounds. This one is cropped tight on the right because the building edge intrudes and to the right is a mess of structure that distracts from the simplicity of what I wanted to capture. I would have liked to capture the treavellers to the left of the portholes, but I was too slow. Thank you :-)

Beautiful tribute to Jules Vernes… there is also something like a Jacques Tati reminiscence in this capture !

  • Merci Dominique, it is a little Tatiesque isn’t it. Perhaps the greyness or the black figures. I have been absent from RB for a couple of weeks.. so the late reply. Merci :-)
