Paris Series
All along the pathways of La Seine are massive iron rings, embedded in the stone walls.
Once used to tie up the barges, no doubt, but now they just cast shadows, maintain the glorious atmosphere and give Parisians something to hold on to.
To reveal art and conceal the artist,
is art’s aim.

Love the shadow. Everyone needs something/someone to hold on to … it’s ???? :-)
Don’t they Cathy? And to think these rings have been securing so much for so long!

Simple and poetic. Love the perfect angle of the shadows.
Thank you Jan, don’t you just iron. It’s so old fashioned but so muscular and resilient. These things are all along La Seine, they will feature in many of my shots of Paris.

I love the quality of presence you create here for this iron ring in the wall. Reminds me of one of Leunig’s poems / prayers about knowing when to hold on and when to let go.
Love your appreciation of the metaphor and for seeing the “presence” – so strong and permanent.

Great shadow, well timed:)
Ah ah! no timing at all – it was midnight and the shadow never moves in the street light. Thanks Rene

I love them a lot… many stories to imagine with them…
D’accord… lovers tie their hearts to these rings, barges pause to offload, horses take a rest, photographers hang their cameras there for lunchtime – a whole history of hundred’s of years tied to just one ring. I hope they never take them away.

Great long shadow. I love it.
Thanks Mike, there’s hundreds of different shadows from all the rings along La Seine, you can never have enough.

If you pull the ring, river Seine just starts to empty :-)))
Beautiful graphic composition !
Bath plug of La Seine; what a concept, Dwarkan! I can see it now, La Seine disappearing in a whirlpool leaving all the Bateaux Mouches lowered into the mud and full of irate tourists clicking their cameras – what and image, such fun. You have a very inventive mind, merci :-)))

DUH:)! ::slaps head::!
Pulling the plug on the Seine and stranding all the Bateaux Mouches complete with obnoxious tourist in the mud is a great picture in my mind:) I think I’ll go pull all the rings I can find just to see what’ll happen:)
And they’re everywhere. See the lovely shadow of the one at the top of the stairs in this photo:

God, the Parisians must think me strange – rusty old iron rings! What a geek!!!

Great film noir image!
I’ll bet if you turned that ring, the blocks would slowly grate apart and inside, in the dark recess, would be…er…um…Boris Karloff ! :^))
Ha, I can hear the hollow grating of the old stones scraping against each other and swinging back to reveal a reeking alcove stacked with bleached skeletons and scurrying spiders; and shrouded in a long black robe is Boris, his deep, quaking voice and beckoning finger curling back – welcome my sweet young thing!!!!!
Thanks for the nighmare V.
