Paris Series

Below street level, through a brilliant white portal opening on to La Seine, two figures emerge from the underworld labyrinth that is the Paris Metro. They could turn left and climb the stairs to join the throng plying the city’s neon boulevards, or they could turn right, and descend into the slanting shadows that blanket the chiselled stone walls of the Left Bank.

They pause to regard each other, embrace and then separate. The man turns right, the woman left, each in search of different needs.

Oh, magnificent story here…whatever we think it is. And there’s one for sure. Maybe many. GORGEOUS shadows, too!!

  • Thank you Robin. I saw the story even before I took the shot. There’s a novel in every walk along the Seine.

ah that shadow, so impendingly diagonally noir! Wonderful.

  • impendingly diagonally noir – how I love innovative language! And yes THAT shadow and all it hides. What a city for shadows! Thanks Evelyn :-))

Typically Rhoufi, a hint of this, a hint of that. Endless possibilities are awakened in the mind of the viewer. :-))

  • AARGH! No No No! You’ve detected a Style in my photos. That’s it, I’m done for, dried up, over the hill, had the gong ;-)))

Still “Endless possibilities are awakened” sounds nice, yes, there could be hope for me yet. Mix a bit of this and a bit of that and I might just reinvent myself.

Really, all seriousness aside, what a lovely comment! It is actually what I strive for – as much ambiguity as possible, so that every viewer might bring their own story with their imaginations. Thank you BC, so nice.

Love the story you added to this image Rhoufi… and very happy to understand you succumb to the charm of Paris !

  • Merci Dwarken, Paris was always very special for me in my youth, and this time it was extra special. Can a particular city resonate with certain individuals? The light, the dark, the spaces, the small streets, the architecture, the gardens, the “coffin” lifts, the ambience and most of all, the people I met, all contributed to this atmosphere that I love. I hope I am able to bring that atmosphere to RB through my photos over the next few weeks. Charm is what it is, merci beaucoup.

You know you should write stories ?
    ;-)
This photo is “so so so” Paris
    as this special atmosphere
at this special moment of the day
when shadows and light build a new world…..

  • And you should take photographs ;-)))
Merci Magali, I might just give it a try ;-)
Your Paris has so many special lights, so many special times of the day,
and each one stirs the imagination to create story.

    moody heavy beautiful mystic
    as love is
    and paris is

  • Everywhere you look you “see” more than eyes can. I “see” stories in every shadow and flare of light. Here the distant body language of the couple coming from the Metro spells a story. Thank you Danica ;-)

  • Jolante, thank you very much. I really love getting compliments from traditional artists. I love your portraits. I would like to do photographic portraits, but I have no willing subjects ;-(((
