Paris Series        ISO 1250

Along the banks of the Seine at night, the tribes emerge. Small groups colonize the small Medieval alcoves, ledges and recesses left over from centuries of distracted neglect. The character of this beautiful city relies on its age and the shadows cast in its quiet corners. Here lovers meet, thieves lie in wait, conspirators plot and photographers stalk.

The first thing I did in Paris was to take a night walk along La Seine, to see what was happening in one of its darkest places, to regain the feel of the City of Light that I left so long ago. And of course, the best light is in the darkest places.

Paris was always good to me, and after all this time it proved to be more special than ever before. Thank you Paris and merci beaucoup to you very special Bubblers who helped make it so memorable.

Great capture:) I have to start doing those things again, hang out in the shady parts of town where the interesting (and iffy) characters are! They make for great pictures:)!

  • Wow, my first super quick comment. Thank you Rene. In these places things happen that are the stuff of story. I would do all my photography at night if I could, I love it so much. And Paris could keep me going for a lifetime.

city of darkness, city of light
    hidden treasures
that’s the way I love my city

  • Hidden treasures to be sure Magali. How lucky you are to live there; to be able to walk in Jardin du Luxembourg when you feel like it, pause at the Fontaine Medicis for the peace, walk along La Seine, visit Shakespeare and Co… ah! Merci Madame Magali.

Yes we say shadow theatre in English – exact! Or even shadow play.

Superb ! That reminds me a lot… I have always been a night bird !!!

  • Thank you so much Dwarkan. The night is wasted on those who sleep, d’accord? I hope to find more images that express my joy at being there. See you soon in your gallery. Merci!

    how cool!

  • Ah VV, you should have been there! What a hunting ground for street photography, any kind of photography really. The only thing that gets in the way are the tourists (says the tourist!!) Go in May, best time for sure. Next time I’m taking a telephoto lens – La Seine is too wide for my 70mm prime. Glorious city, vivid memories. Merci VV
