… I might close my book, place it back on the shelf, open the front door and step out into the light …
… just to see for myself what it’s really like.

Oscar Wilde – “The Picture of Dorian Gray”
ooh this is stellar my friend, I love all these great elements, bravo!!!
Whew, this photo picked up momentum quickly. Thanks Ange, I enjoyed trying to do this one. I actually imagined the mood before setting it up; I don’t normally “design” my images that much. Very pleased you like it.
Straight away my mind went to the Daylesford Book Barn – one of my favourite places. Wonderfully evocative I can smell those books, the dust and feel the warmth of the light. Lovely work Rhoufi :)
Thank you Gwynne. Yes I like the Book Barn as well, but this is closer to home – my front hall in fact. How many times I have passed through this scene and never seen the photo op. Then one day, heading out with camera in hand and hey! there’s a photo here. And tell me about the dust!!! So many books, so much dust. Nice to see you again.
But it is so safe here and organized;trying The Outside every week or so preferably at night when there are no crowdsuntil one adjusts to Them :this can help….
Hi Tiz, you picked the sub-text alright. I didn’t mention the agoraphobia (I hate things with that extension), but that’s what I had in mind as well. There is refuge in books, the stories of other people’s lives, and then the home can become a self-contained prison.
Very appealing shot and words, R. Love this.
I think you win a prize for the tag “insiderness”, too ;)
Thank you so much Jan. Yes, “insiderness”: well it’s not a real word, but a writer friend of mine used this word to describe the narrator of one of my longer short stories. It was written in the 1st person by an internalized and detached traveller. So I have always been fond of this “non-word”; I think it can exist! Hey! this is English, the evolving language. :))))
Ooh I love this Rhoufi, wonderful composition and use of light
I should add I’m a fan of your words too
Thanks Georgie, there are certain times of the day and year that this hallway and front door has very special light. It faces west and it can go from subdued lighting as in the photo above, to firery red in a matter of hours. This was taken during the heat of the bushfires last year (same door in the background with the blinds down). Thanks for your lovely comments.
but books are your lightthat’s what I can see herethe window itself is like a bookon your inner thoughtsit’s a fabulous image
A photographer friend of mine has been teaching me to open my eyes more; to look for a composition that encapsulates an emotion; to compose to express a feeling. This is an example of my efforts. Yes books are light for me, and inner thoughts, of course :)) I think my friend will be very pleased by your comment and that this image has attracted so many wonderful comments – I know I am; very pleased.
I like this very much. Why are the books all so thin? Or is it the angle of the shot that makes them look thin? Perhaps they too are hungry for a little play outdoors.
All my novels are hungry to be read; they are wasting away just waiting for me to find time. Every day as I walk passed they lean forward to be noticed “pick me; no me!” On the shelf that you can see here, await a chorus of novels by Auster, Banville, Russell Banks, Beckett, Bellow… all my favourites, all yet to be enjoyed. But all I get time for is taking their photo, what a tragic situation…. but yes, I will take them for a walk… soon Evelyn… soon. ;-))
