The members of the collecting team picked their way along the canyon floor, through the chill of the deep shadows where light never falls. All the way, their eyes were drawn to the patterns above them. At the end they could see a wall of white stone that must have been carefully carved out into cubic alcoves by some extinct civilization to provide shelter for their multitudes. The purity of the marble reflected the harsh light of the sun onto the sheer, inner walls of the escarpment to either side, projecting striated patterns of light and dark which partially illuminated the gloom.

Man’s monuments to himself will someday be nothing more than artifacts.

Love the contrasting elements here and love that portrait compo too.. well done Rhoufi

  • Thanks Angela. You have no idea how different the colour version of this looks – interesting, but! When I converted it to B+W, it lit up all over the place with reflections and interesting detail. Thanks heaps.

Well done, Rhoufi! What a great, luminous shot!

  • Thanks Jan. It does sort of glow doesn’t it. The way this turned out was a surprise to me actually – I passed over it several times when viewed in the RAW colour images before I tried B+W and then I knew the reflections would make it. Thanks heaps.

fantastic. i often wonder how people(the next species?) will look upon us as a civilisation, if the earth lasts that long… i wonder whether they will find my favourite bento place just down and to the left.

  • Thanks Dan, I often wonder the same thing – what will the aliens think when they find us in 10,000 years: will they marvel at our beauty, be astonished at how clever we were, or will they just shake their heads and think “poor sods, if only they’d woken up earlier”. I check out the bento place next time I’m there. Thanks

Fabulous image! Love the bw work and the prose that accompanies it…very creative. :-)

  • Thanks Kobaya, I like to fool around in the description section, it sort of indicates to the viewer what might be going in my imagination when taking and processing the image. You like to do that too I think; you have even written some stories to go with your photos – I hope you continue to do that, it’s interesting. Thanks for your visit
