Alone In The City #11: Waiting For Gordon

He was going to the bar for a chardonnay (for her) and a shiraz (for him). An hour later she put down their draft marriage contract and realized he hadn’t returned.

  • I just love it when someone pounces on a new image. You are so nice Ell, thank you.

    Great composition!

  • Thanks Angela. I nearly posted the colour version (the overhead glass plates are smoky blue), but at the last minute I thought the geometry and the figure were more important – what do you think? Difficult I suppose without the comparison.

    wonderful capture

  • Thank you Judith, very pleased to have such a comment from a B+W Spotlight Master. I agonized over the B+W for this, but I think I am happy with it.

The lone figure makes for an excellent shot .Well seen

  • Thank you James. Yes, I agree, I am fascinated by lone figures in urban landscapes, and this landscape is sort of alien as well.

    This is Great Rhoufi! :-)

  • Thanks Linda. I think I’ll add it to my “Alone in the city series”. As you know I love cityscapes with only one figure. :—))

I really like this one, Rhoufi, the alienation of the figure is well caught. And I love your commentary….poor lass ;^( V. :^))

  • Thanks V, another of my alienation photos, eh? I don’t know what’s wrong with me really, my camera just seeks out these shots. And what an awful scenario occurred to me. It was the two wine glasses, one red one white and no bloke in sight that did it. I’m sure they are very happy and it was just the menu she was reading :—))

What a great visual story and written one, Rhoufi! Love her lone position in the thirds area, and the unique glass overhead decor.

  • Thanks Jan, this is a unique place in Melbourne. Imagine the Twin Towers with thier corners nearly touching and then cover the space between them at groundlevel and fill it with shops, cinema, cafes, etc – that’s the Great Space and these light fittings are suspended over all the tables in the outdoor Cafe. I was on the mezzanine, so got a good angle.. The guy just went away and hadn’t returned by the time I left – so that’s where the story came from.

Wow how extraordinary this is, especially with those hovering glass plates and your wonderful composition Rhoufi! Love the lone diner and inherent stories…

  • Hi Georgie, I’ve just read your reply on “Spring” – aren’t we street photographers a strange breed (lying in wait, hiding behind curtains (Ell), shooting people on the sly, getting reved up over shoes and wet concrete :-D) If you haven’t been into Collins Place drop in next time – it’s an amazing site for photography because you can get above the action and that gives special views and POV. I’m sure you come away with a winner ot two.

    – Rhoufi

  • Thanks for the favs :-)
