I always forget that airports make amazing backgrounds.. this is great in BW Rhoufi, love the starkness and how you composed this in portrait to make the person seems small & lost….

  • Thanks Angela, for noticing that I actually did set out to take the shot as it is. I have entered it in the Then there was one.. challenge in Street Photography. So I had to find a single person in a public place and shoot it in the passed 2 weeks. I wanted to show the smallness of people in big places. Thanks for noticing this.

mmm………………….nice one. What time was it? I have only seen the airport deserted like that in the middle of the night. He looks so alone and lost – perfect for the challenge. Great comp and love the title Rhoufi

  • Thanks Aart, it was not so late and one minute later it was teeming with passengers going to and coming from – I just had to be quick. The Aart of Curiosity………mmm……you don’t actually work there do you? :-)

Yes I have never seen it like that even at night – and no I don’t work there ;-) I hope this does well in the challenge it exemplifies the theme absolutely.

  • So many lovely comments from you Gwynne, but I am slowly gaining on you ;—) Yes I hope it is seen as fitting the criteria – it’s the fist time I went out to find one that did.

    BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! LOVE this!!!!!!

  • I’m glad you like this Robin. I wondered if the figure was too far away, but it seemed to be in the spirit of the challenge so left the crop wide. Thanks for the fav.

Love the loneliness of this shot….really works! V.

  • Thanks Victoria, I don’t know why but I seem to see a lot of solo people in city landscapes and frame them to accentuate their separateness. Curious habit of mine; bit too sensitive to the outsider in a crowd. Anyway, it was intended here and I am pleased you felt it.

Beautifully done, love the tones and composition – the expanse of tiles really draws you in and highlights the isolation.

  • Great to hear from another Melbournian, and thanks for the nice comment. I think I’ve got a thing going with loners in urban landscapes. Glad you feel the isolation in the composition.

    – Rhoufi

  • And thanks for making this a favourite, I appreciate that a lot :—)
