i like the frame and play on shadows … for sure it is something i can’t see in my country !

  • I posted this again in the right “reply” box so you know I reponded.
Thanks Stéphan, I guess the closest you could get in Belgium would be deer. The Roos in the photo are wild, but only 90minutes from Melbourne and on a walking track to Bushranger’s Bay. I have just looked at your page and I really love your B&W work and the degraded world themes.

    excellent shot!

  • Thanks for that. I like the children’s book cover feel to it. I’ve lived in Australia all my life and I still think Roos are weird

    solovely catch

  • Thank you again Antanas. Have you ever seen a live kangaroo? In the wild, they move about in mobs like this, but it was luck to come upon them back-lit like this. The autofocus did not work (I have now learned this!) so they are a little blurry, but the atmosphere is still there.

    Superb capture

  • Thank you Kate,
I have looked at your wonderful images of North American Indians and was reminded that the photos of Edward S. Curtis were one of the things that got me into photography. I have the very large version of his book of sepia portraits and often leaf through it marvelling – the pride and the tragedy in their faces. Glad you like my roos, they are amazing creatures.

    LOVELOVELOVE this!!!!!
You framed them beautifully and they look wonderful in their intent poses. GORGEOUS and fascinating!
Thank you for sharing this with us!!!!

  • Thanks Robin, when I saw then I almost stopped breathing. I knew they wouldn’t stay there there once they saw me. I was frantic to get the settings right and forgot that autofocus does not work well on distant dark objects. So I got one shot; they heard the shutter and broke pose. I was so glad to have caught them in a relaxed but wary pose.

Haha…I must have passed you on the road to Flinders! Every time I drive over there I keep a lookout for kangaroos – they have a habit of bounding across the road when least expected! Lovely shot Rhoufi. V.

  • We tend to take them for granted, or consider then a dangerous pest, but if you get the chance to observe them you get quite engrossed. I have other shots, but this silhouette is my favourite.

is your nick rhoufi like from peter pan?

  • No it’s Rhoufi as in Balcon de Rhoufi in Algeria – an ancient oasis that is supposed to be deserted, but really isn’t; the people just run away when someone comes close ;-D
