Light in Winter - Street Theatre Portrait #6 by

On Saturday, 22 June, in Federation Square, Melbourne, the “Light in Winter” Festival featured several street performances. The individual events were badly publicized and still there seems to be no internet information about the writers and performers.

This is just one of the actors who brought a cold night on the stones to life. I wish I could give you the credits, but I can’t find anything about these wonderful performers.

    Wow! Amazing light and movement!!!!

  • Thanks again dear Robin – look at that expression! Isn’t it so intense and so rivetting. These actors were fantastic – I must find out who they were and follow them.

The hues here and light, along with her seemingly gentle, rapt expression just call out to me. And yet your B&W shots evoke similar strong emotions. You have captured unparalleled light and emotions with this series.

  • Thank you Jan… these subjects were such a gift. I feel I have been languishing for lack of subjects lately, and then in one night I stumble on an avalanche of human grace and emotive expressions. Subjects like these deserve your absolute best efforts, it’s the way you repay them for being who they are.

    here she is ………..
    my very favorite one …….
people are colored and I love them them that way …….. (bw is aesthetic……. color is soul…….. to me)
    and here
    colors are life
I am mad a bout this photo

  • Merci encore :-)
It was as if the colours in this image were designed especially for her – everything in tune. And yet it was all chance. Her expression radiates so much energy and life and it creates an image I to am mad about. So glad you love this. As you know, I regard portraits as the most important application for photography and I would like to be good at them. With these the subjects did all the work, they were perfect and I was lucky to be in the right place. There are more to come when I have time, you will see ;-)

Really wonderful image Rhoufi, it’s just bursting with her energy. From what I gather the group that performed that night might be Square of Light but I can’t find out any specifics about them.

  • I got about as far as you – Square of Light seems to be responsible for all the video works as well, but you can’t find anything about who they are. I will delve deeper. Thanks Georgie.
