A Coffee Dream

I awoke exhausted
working for dreams in America
even after they stole my pension
my exotic esspresso blend set things right
I resolved to keep to the toil as alll good folks do
but fell asleep at the kitchen table in the land of plenty
I woke with a paper cup
cheap instant served at the unemployment office
the bitter brew pinched my gut
for over a year I resolved to look for work as all good folks do
When I slept I dreamed of justice
In the mission charity line I spoke with others like me
we had our dreams stolen by ruthless , clever men
Over styrofoam cups of sorrow we watched big screen lies
“More hope today as Wall Steet edges towards…jobless figures seem to be …”
I went to sleep and dreamed of liberty
I awoke in the White House with looters all around
My wife and I found the gloriously stocked kitchen
We made a strong American coffee
We drank from simple servants cups
Tasting Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
On the saucer rim we saw, Liberty and Justice for All

Absolutely brilliant!! So thought provoking. this took my breath away as I read it related so to my story. From working mom to homeless mom going to college from a homeless shelter to getting a job again only to lose it do to serious health problems, then to be told that the state had miscalculated my retirement benefits so therefor not only would i get no more retirement but i had been over paid already. they are so pathetically clueless and has no clue what they do to every day lives.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope things will get better for you. When it comes down to it, the world has not changed since the Cro-Magnon man walked the earth scrounging for food and using whatever tools he found to get through the daily dangers etc. Hang in there. If we are on the same track as the 1930s and I believe we are, there will be four more years of woe and then reaching the absolute bottom will give a chance to start fresh and climb out. Egads! Sad, but I think war and or revolution is somewhere in the solution set. Be thankful for small things like art and beauty, knowing that this time there are no saber tooth tigers to contend with. :-)

You are a talented survivor my friend. I am confident that you will not only find a way to survive, but excel at what you do. You are too good of a man to keep down.

Thanks for the kind words JR. I am not a quitter by any means. I write hope when I write even the one’s including political dissent. I thank you for your support and belief in my potential. Cheers, J
