Today, the school took a small group of art/photography students to see the exhibitions in Norwich of a lot of college peoples’ works. It was a great experience, really inspirational (even if my knees are killing me now). We got tons and tons of free postcards, which is always great, so now I’m sitting looking at them. I tried to put them into some sort of heirarchy, from those I disliked to those I adored.
I found something strange. Although a few of my top ones were highly visual, two of them were written. One was part of a poem, written on notepaper and then photographed; and the other, possibly my favourite of the whole lot, simply said this:
“the sound of
raindrops
f a l l i n g”
I suppose that says more about me than anything else, but it raises an interesting point. I’m resolved now to try some visual poetry, or at least visual phrasing.
Going to an exhibition such as this is a great oppurtunity to get some real inspiration and think about what you want from your art.
In other news, this Wednesday I’ll be going to the British Grand Prix. Since I’m a marshall there I get pit access and get to do the track walk, so although I won’t be able to reply to any comments or suchlike, I should be able to return with a healthy stack of new prints :)
