Silverstone 2009
What to say, what to say? Unfortunately this year Silverstone didn’t quite look after the marshals as well as they usually do. We were denied access to the track on Thursday – a day when we would usually get into the pits for photo opportunities. This was, in fact, where I met Lewis Hamilton last year, and I was hoping to get him to sign the prints I took at that time; alas, it was not to be, and I only got in there on Friday. Still had some good garage shots though, which I will upload in due course (though to the expectant, be warned – I’m starting a new job in a couple of days and tomorrow I have my Sixth Form prom, so it’s a busy week for me!).
Funnily enough, though, while we were strolling around on the Thursday, we stopped for a toilet break and I handed my camera to my father, who was waiting outside with our bags. When we came back he proudly showed me a picture of Rubens Barrichello! The man himself had walked past just after we went inside, and Dad didn’t miss the opportunity – despite having never used a DSLR before. That’s what I call quick learning!
I will be putting up some Historics and BTCC as per request (I live to serve!), but as before, these may take some time.
All in all, a fabulous weekend despite setbacks, and I was immensely pleased to see Fisichella and Rosberg do so well; two of my favourite drivers, despite my usual allegiance to McLaren. Let’s hope by this time next year all the politics will be but a distant memory.

What a downer! Not getting good access to what could be the last race at Silverstone.
I’m afraid the politics do not appear to be going to go away. I think the teams are set on starting new next year.

Bummer!
But as always, I look forward to whatever work you publish here!

Without you and other Marshal’s F1 and all other motor sports would not be able to function.
It’s about time the FIA realised this and started to treat Marshals with respect, yes they give you a ticket to the race and a guest pass but you give up most of your weekends all year, in all weather, not to let you into the pit lane on the Thursday is out of order, you need to see the cars ‘up close’, you need to know all the safety functions on the different cars.
I am ranting on, sorry but this sort of thing gets to me.
As an ex F1 official can I say thanks to you and all other Marshal’s for making F1 and all other motor sports possible.
Come on Max and Bernie play fair with your unpaid workforce !
