Clad in English armour of the fifteenth century, Edward of York wields a poleaxe beneath three suns in splendour, symbolic of the phenomenon witnessed on the morn of the battle of Mortimer’s Cross. After the battle, in honour of his victory, Edward added the sun in splendour to his banner and badge.

Original drawing by Richard H. Fay, first published in Abandoned Towers, Issue #7, November 2010.

Artist’s pens on Bristol board, digitally coloured.
