Polish Eagle

Richard Fay

Troy, United States

Artist's Description

This design is based on the white eagle found in the national coat of arms of Poland. According to legend, Poland’s founder Lech adopted the white eagle as his emblem after he saw one in its nest, the sight of which made him decide to settle in that spot. The bird was featured on coins of Bolesław I (992-1025), and became the national coat of arms of Poland during the reign of Przemysł II.
Original drawing by Richard H. Fay, drawn using artist’s pens on Bristol board and then coloured digitally.
