I’m Richard and I’m an amateur photographer living in the UK (West Midlands). I’ve been interested in photography for around 4 years now, but most of the images on this site were taken from around July-August 2008 to the present day.
I draw my inspration for photography from the weather and light that surrounds me – you’ll rarely find me photographing any sort of historical or well known location for photographers or artists alike. What interests me is atmosphere and light. I like to keep my compositions simple, which hopefully allows the elements to connect more fluently, allowing yourself to consider the photograph more as whole.
One of the difficulties I used to have is trying to identify my own style and concentrating on that, but I’ve decided that this a fairly unproductive road to follow. Instead, I just try to keep on experimenting and not sticking to any prescribed way of creating or developing an image. Instead of looking back and trying to decide a technique that I want to stick with, I explore what I have done the past few months, decide what works and what doesn’t. I just try to learn by my mistakes and take forward what intrigues me the most. If I look back on my images, I see distinct phases, but ones that I like to try and continually build upon. Of course, there is a downside to this… something that you’re very pleased with one day can look completely wrong in a few months time.
I hope you feel this translates into some of the images on this site and that you enjoy the galleries.
Thank you,
Richard Harris
