Ice Pillars

Ice Pillars by Robert Former

Ice Pillars

An interesting optical effect observed one SERIOUSLY cold night in Feb of 2007.
The pillars are caused by the town nearly five miles (8km) away.
What was cool was the airport beacon to the west of this view, but it’s a little hard to capture the effect in a still.

I saw a similar effect whilst serving in Iraq, the oil fields burning resulted in massive ghostly columns in the night sky, im afraid i had a gun and not a camera, so i couldn’t really take a shot, lol. Nice capture
