In the old days… old people that couidn’t “crew the leather” any more…. (old sick, or if their Braves, got killed.)… got left behind to die…unless relatives or friends that could support them… would take them in… (Sounds familar …rings true even today…Homeless people) Here her dog has stayed behind with her as her tribe, seen in the far distance in abstract…over the top of her head has gone and left her to die… sad but true thats the way it was/is

Here is another lesson from the University of OSHK The University I attended… (Old School of Hard Knocks) learned many years ago as an illustrator… start with 10 ply board
I use this precut board to back my watercolours, and pastel work before inserting them into mylar sleeves for storage and when presenting them at shows if they are not matted and framed… where was I… oh yeah, I use 10 ply board… I have used 140 and 300 lb. watercolour paper… but find 10 ply board works better for me… in a little cup with board flat on work table… dance a little meduim varnish on to the board in design or just go with it… in pattern you want …then semi dry with that hair dryer… take some pastel and pencil shavings from your pencil sharpener … I have two large electric ones… (costed a pretty penny lol) reason is one for pastel shavings and one for graphite shavings… spinkle… in this case I used pastel shaving… into the semi-dried medium varnish… moving the board every which way… playing with the shavings to get them evenly spread onto the varnish…the reason for semi-dried so you can press the shavings down so they don’t lump up on your board… spreading them down with a putty knife… that you can buy inexpensively down at your local hardware store get different sizes… after you have done that… sit board on your easel brushing off the loose shavings… then finish drying the entire varnish/shavings…then spray the entire board with (I use Windex)… yes the kind to clean windows lol… I find that mixed with watercolour creates neat designs (lay down your watercolour while board is still semi wet…as it runs down the board and using your hair dryer to control the flow… works better then regular water neat huh..
after watercolours are dry… use acrylic with brush and putty knife just paint as you usually do… but the effects you will achieve on the 10 ply board, are awesome… especially over the watercolours and pastel shavings good luck, remember the key here is… PASSION for your Art
