A quick oil study I painted on the 29th Oct ( for Dia de los Muertos)

A quick study 20 to 30 minutes to block in and lay down bright colors by using (alla prima) method… (Learn to paint as fast as you can) with practice you will get very good at it… I squeeze the oils right from the tube onto the canvas and spread around with pallette knife or brush using little tricks and secrets learned many years ago…don’t worry about running colors together… with practice you will only run (mix) the ones you want to run together… then let dry over night…

Next day use hair dryer…. til paint is a sticky and in another 20 minutes… or so… then finishing touch use pocket knife or pallettte knife to canal out some texture where needed… wella completed excerise…. The trick is to make it look like it came together with not effort and looks loose…

I think it has taken me longer to photogaph this piece, and post then it took to paint it…lol… photographed in nature light in upstairs studio, with perfect painting light and with a drop down from ceiling light filter to the right

Wow she is luminous. I love the light that radiates from her face which has an almost stained glass effect. I also love her intense questioning engaging stare. The textures, blue, her eyes are all captivating. I love the technique and hearing your process of how she evolved. A gorgeous portrait to celebrate Dia de los Muertos in California dear Rey. xxx

  • linda mi amiga, muchas gracias, bella mujer… oils are lots of fun to works with… as you know… alot easier to work with then acrylics but love the quick over lays that can be quickly accomplished in acrylics, thanks my dear for the visit, comment
