From New Native American Series Beyond Dreams… 4th in this series of 20 new works
With the beaver and buffalo gone, and been forced onto an Idaho reservation, with about 150 warriors and over 500 women, children, and old men… Chief Joseph of the Nez Perces nation beat off a detachment of US calvary and retreated into Montana territory. Through over 1700 miles of skillfully out generaling the US calvary under General Howard…fighting the US government, and the cold winter with his people starving and the Canadian border and freedom within reach…he fought his final battle… surrounded by Colonel Miles forces and greatly outnumbered… Chief Joseph surrendered…
“From where the sun now stands… I will fight no more forever”
Thus another chapter of the great horse culture of the Native American came to an end
