This is our 9th painting/drawing/poem in our 2nd collaboration…..of 40 paintings/drawings and poem in this series by Anthea and Reynaldo
In A Tribute to Womanhood Series
As we explore the another side of Womanhood Sadness and Depression…....as A Man I believe we all get depressed at one time or another….......but I believe it hits Womanhood
hardest…......I may be wrong…..
Here is a Beautiful poem by The Australian Beauty Anthea Slade, my brilliant and talented collabrator, and very dear friend.
Sad
Sadness is shy.
She bites at our hearts
and tugs at our minds.
Sadness stops us
and makes us feel.
Our blood bursts with sadness.
Makes us fall within our essence.
Sadness is the seed
in the fertile soil
that grows the flower happiness.
Sadness the mirror.
Sadness the reflection
of our faces in the water.
Sadness makes us dance alone.
She makes us build emotional muscle.
Sadness gives us gumption.
Sadness makes us have courage.
She feeds our minds with memories and dreams.
Sadness creates tension for change,
and urges us to look within.
Sadness massages our hearts
and makes them grow stronger.
Sadness is our teacher,
the precursor of self-awareness,
the inspiration behind our art.
Sadness is the friend of reflection,
Sadness the light in the dark,
The shadow to the sun.
Sadness now is part of our happiness then.
Sadness knows nature loves to hide.
The more we love,
The more we miss,
The more we cry when it goes.
Sadness is the mistress of vulnerability,
The guardian of our sensitivity,
A companion to our bliss.
Sadness links us to others,
Sadness enables us to feel compassion,
Sadness is an empty space,
Sadness is beautiful,
Sadness makes us human.

Rey your painting is just magnificent. Your work taps into the intense and alienating emotions and essence of depression. Am deeply moved by the emotion you have created and expressed in this intensely moving work of art. It is a great honour and pleasure to collaborate with you in A Tribute to Womanhood Series. Just like it was in our Passion Series. Another heart moving and beautiful painting by you dear Rey. xxx

You got depression right on her face. Depression contorts the face and body. She seems alot less attractive than she probably really is. The woman in the painting seems to have submitted to her despair. You’ve captured her mood in her hollow eyes. What I like about your paintings is that they really capture the essence of the person/persons in the work.
I like the way you capture sadness Anthea, very descriptive portraits of what it means to be caught up in depression. You write so beautifully. Powerful work guys!

Wonderful combination. I especially love the references to sadness. I often wonder if depression is an opportunity for us to really listen to our deepest places and access wisdom that will open us up to positive change.
