Central Athens, autumn 2007

It was an incredibly windy day and I was slaving away at my tedious job when the windows blew open in my office.

That tree was whipping left and right. I tried to capture the static buildings in this very built-up city and the wildness of the tree.

Athens can also be very impersonal, but sometimes things light up and through (if that makes any sense).

I was rather pleased with the 50s look of the masonry, although my tree didn’t quite come out as expected.

Technical data:
ND filter to increase exposure; additional, high-contrast levels AL, saturation and then selective desaturation with a soft brush. Two glasses of Laphroaig consumed.

The vibrancy and textural quality of that tree…. and the light from the window beckoning warmth to the outsider.
The layering of walls and aerials makes a bold statement against nature and wanting comfort.
And the Laphroaig was a certain extra technical requirement for sure me thinks!

  • I had my wrist (gently) slapped in a group for not providing technical data/narrative, so I thought I’d offer the important technical data in addition to what I clicked on in Photoshop.
If you look at the “Shot to Death” images, you’ll see just how layered Athens really is.
    Thanks for your comment!

Like it! One of the few examples of selective colouring where it actually makes sense. I love the orange light!!!

I’ve always liked this one. The previous comment is spot on. Perfect choice of the items you colored – I think the window was necessary – definitely makes the image stand out more. I mostly stick with selecting a single color – will definitely have to rethink that. Thank you.

I have always been drawn to the warmth of lighted windows. That drew my eye immediately. Love it.
