Iapetus
Could this be the surface of Iapetus, the mysterious moon of Saturn. Most of its surface is shrouded in darkness so what it looks like, for the time being, is up to the imagination.
Most of Saturn’s moons are icebound but I thought a little water wouldn’t go astray. As for the red colouring well a bit of poetic licence.
Planetscape created in Artmatic Voyager. Moons created in Bryce 6 and Saturn itself a big thank you to NASA/JPL.
I must say that I have been experimenting for a long time to create real-looking Saturn rings but I have never been happy with my attempts so far.

There’s something quite fine about Artmatic mountain detail, I only tried Saturn HERE and doesn’t really count.

Thanks Syd. I multilayered the original render in different modes to alter the colour and the ambience but yes there are fantastic textures in the mountains. As to your Saturn I reckon its pretty darned good and how did I miss that image it’s a ripper. I like faces of the aliens. I should get KPT as it is a great program.
