Danger! Danger!

There are many perils out there in space. This is one of them. A particularly dangerous beast. An Ymonoce worm. Voracious, tenacious, parasitic, artful, avaricious, mendacious . . . sorry I’ve gotten carried away with the adjectives to describe this creature that floats out there in space just waiting for unsuspecting space ships. If you see one just keep your distance. The greater the distance the better. Once they latch onto the hull your stuck. So beware.
This one was spotted out near the Recession Nebula. We managed to escape.

Created in Photoshop and “the creature” in Groboto.

Voracious indeed, and scientific evidence to date indicates that these beasts are apparently very common in that particular quadrant.

  • retepk replied

    Thank you very much Phil.
Yes it has now been catalogued that all craft avoid that quadrant unless it is absolutely necessary:-)
    Cheers mate.

Fantastic composition!! You can almost feel its malevolence!!

  • retepk replied

    Thank you very much Steve.
It could almost be, but isn’t, a cousin to a very well-known, cinematic, malevolent, inter-galactic, tenacious being intent on wreaking havoc:-)

New toy? Heh heh, these things don’t even need eyes to snag you, like a giant Portuguese Man ‘o war I bet, and in the right conditions they multiply at the touch of a button. But with a little experience you can control them very nicely! Very nice starfield too!

  • retepk replied

Many thanks Syd. Yes a new toy. I’m slowly getting the hang of it and seeing potential in every bot and primitive.

Have you located the manual? It’s in the docs folder called grobotoDocs-win.pdf, (or mac) I took the time to follow this thru and it’s very helpful. What they don’t tell you is how to load a primitive, modify it, and save it (just do a save as back to user primitives folder) and deep in the manual they tell you how to make an auto bot and then swap the bots for others. Plus HERE is some good free stuff, the movie demos are outdated, but there’s lots more bots.

  • retepk replied

Thanks Syd for the link. I just glanced over the manual as I usually pick it up by trial and error occasionally referring to the manual if I hit a wall. I’m just finding the modification capabilities and creating new prims and bots determined to create 3D sci fi models.
    Cheers.

I used to look through a microscope in pond water for inspiration for space creatures, this looks much like what resulted, but a fair bit fearsome. Nice going Retepk.

  • retepk replied

Thank you very much Brian. Pond life (and microscopic life) – that is another universe that surrounds us but we just don’t see it. We “overlook” it. It is an ideal source for “alien” creatures.

I’m over the moon that it has been featured. Thank you.

Had a thought, I never used the metaballs in Bryce or Vue for anything, but I bet you could make some pretty smooth streamlined shapes that way combined with Groboto’s machine or spiraly things… must try this!

  • retepk replied

A great idea Syd. I also have never used them. I probably have only used the tip of the iceberg in Bryce so I don’t want to make the same mistake with Groboto. And there is probably unexplored territory in Photoshop I’ve yet to discover.
    Cheers.

woooeee …. you betcha I’ll stay away for these beasties …. thankfully I have no need for now to go anywhere near the Recession Nebula! thanks for the warning!

  • retepk replied

Many thanks Owlspook. We all have to look out for the Ymonoce worm and the Recession Nebula but, regrettably, few have remained unscathed.
    Cheers.
