He lived his life
On terms his own
He needed no one
He was alone.

He liked it this way,
No reason to worry.
His days were his own
No reason to hurry.

Yet there were those times
When he felt a pain.
A longing for more, a need
He could not explain.

He had been alone for so long now
He wasn’t sure if he could allow
Himself to trust another human
He didn’t know if he even knew how.

He just wanted to shout?
What was this about?
Why must things change?
. . . Is there no way out?!
