A poem I wrote after the birth of my firstborn son, Chance. He was & still is the best of me. . .

Chance was born 2 months early. He was 3 lbs. 8 oz. which is actually a good size for being born so premature. He spent 28 days in the NICU and was overall healthy, just small.
He was able to come home when he was about 5 lbs. This picture shows how small he was, just a tiny bit bigger than a preemie cabbage patch doll.
He was 23 years old Feb. 1, 2010 & is a beautiful, talented, loving young man.
He really is My One & Only Chance

My granddaughter was three month early and was just 2 lbs 1 oz. She was in the intensive baby care unit for ten weeks. When they let my daughter bring her home we had to buy dolls clothes for her because at that time no one made clothes small enough for premature babies. She will be nineteen in a few weeks and apart from having a very weak chest and some real problems with her feet is not doing too badly considering all things.

Glad to hear your little one turned out OK too Rhonda.

    David xx

  • David!!! 23 years ago they didn’t make preemie clothes so we had to buy doll clothes too and they are not very baby friendly. Velcro closings, buttons galore and NO PREEMIE DIAPERS –
Wow 2 lbs 1 oz… that is tiny. My Chance was actually pretty big for as early as he was. They told me if I had went full-term he probably would’ve been about 10 lbs.!! Lucky me :o)
Isn’t it amazing… our precious gifts.
Thank you so much for sharing, I love hearing happiness from friends…
    xoxo
