These are my relatives; 3 of my dad’s older siblings & my paternal great-grandmother, Emma Watson (standing holding Eddie) & her daughter Nettie Mae, my grandmother (sitting holding Nell). My grandfather Charlie Thompson with Jack standing by him.
This photo was taken somewhere in Arizona in the 1930’s in front of a cotton field where I am sure they were working.
I would imagine that they are wearing their Sunday best for this photograph. They originally come from Missouri during the end of the Great Depression. At some point they returned to Missouri & Arkansas because my dad was born Missouri.
They eventually made their way back to the Southwest with the oldest, Jack (boy standing) settling in Phoenix, AZ. and the rest of the 5 kids in CA. in Los Angeles County.
This restored photograph reminds me of the real Grapes of Wrath.
Original was faded, scratched & torn. Restored in PSCS2 using curves on layers, dust & scratch removal and sharpening. I purposely left the stain on my grandmother’s hosiery as it makes it more real and I love that my Aunt Nell is holding her little doll. This just makes it more poignant for me.
