The book fell open to
The page that I have read
So many times before.

The wind scatters about
The days not long ahead.
Yes, tis too familiar a song I hear.
Just the tune,
Slow and precise.
No words are needed
To convey its’ meaning.

This path is worn
Yet my footprints are still
visible from a time
not far behind.

Oh yes, I have been this way before.
Yet each time it’s just as painful as before.
And if the truth be known,
It always hurts me more.

I stand – alone – walking this road,
reading this page, hearing this song.
Wondering if it will last,
And wond’ring just how long.

S is for Sorrow & Sadness

My artistic assignment was to complete the Dragan effect & create a writing that conveyed the feeling I thought was projected by this image.

Hello, I am Rhonda aka RestLeSsD & I am a graphic & web designer. My main media is Photoshop & Dreamweaver. I create 3D art & images using Fractals from Incendia & Apophysis. I use these in my creations formed in PS. I also use Picture Window Pro and Paint Shop Pro.
I am also a poet & I have been writing since I was about 10 years old. Since being here on the Bubble I have fulfilled my goal of illustrating my poetry & writing as well as writing new works…

w0w! this is a superb portrait sweetheART excuse my ignorance but what’s the Dragan effect ;} happy hippy hugglez

  • Thank you Val – - the effect is an aging & darkening process. One of my Aussie RB friends mentioned it & checked it out.
There is a tutorial (which Kira below links to).
Here is the group Dragan Masters
    – - I learn something new here at RB every day :o)

Instant fav for me – WOW – and WOW again. If this is your first try.
I just followed the link and saw the original – Great job Rhonda.
Tell me how long did it take?? I have tried to follow a tutorial – not a very good one – young man trying it on a portrait of his father. Do you know one better?

  • Thank you so much Kira. . . I used the same tutorial that you have linked to but I made my adjustments more extreme. I think because the subject has so many wrinkles it helped the effect look better, lots of burning & dodging. It took me about 45 min. to an hour. I don’t flatten my layers like he does so I can go back & do some extra adjustments if I need to.
Now, I have to find some of my own subjects. . .

Well done Rhonda. That is the same tutorial that I follow. Saw you joined the Dragan Masters.

  • Yes I did Eeva, you inspired me. . . did I do it right? Did you click on the original image link? I guess it is a matter of taste but I like mine extreme.
Eeek, I just noticed it is 2:15 – (am) I better get off to bed. . .

Oh Rhonda!!!!!!!! What can I say? You have excelled yourself with this one. It is stunning. Powerful, moody, insightful and perfect. If I could favour it a million times I would. I predict this will win many features. Brilliant work my dear, dear friend. I too looked at the original and I could not believe the difference you have made.
    xx

  • Anna, thank you so, so much. I am very happily surprised that you like it so much. I have added a poem if you want to take a 2nd look sometime.
Thank you for your friendship :o)

Incredible!! . . . Abso-frogging-lutely incredible!! . . . A fantastic treatment to an already great image . . . I see here an old friend of mine, Steve, a career criminal, someone who had spent more time behind bars than out in the world. Sent to a children’s home at 9 because he was too much of a handful for his ageing grandparents (father non existent and mother dead). He didn’t like the place, so he ran away. They caught him, eventually and put him in a more secure facility. He liked that even less, so he ran away again. Eventually they caught up with him again and this time sent him to a Remand facility. He hated that. In fact he hated it so much that when he finally managed to escape, he stole a car to try and get as far away as possible. When they caught up with him again, it was off to juvenile prison and so the story continues . . .
Steve was the most genuine person you could imagine, other than being a thief by profession, he was probably the most honest person I have met. Steve was as ugly as sin but had a heart of pure gold. At about 6’3’ and only some 9 and a half to 10 stone, he would look very much like this image today, if he is still alive. Last time I saw Steve, was just before he was sentenced to 3 years jail for B&E. I had told him I would stand by him in anything he did but if he stole again I would have nothing to do with him. The last thing I heard about him was when he escaped from Freemantle prison in Western Australia in 1980 or thereabouts. Maybe the only regret I have in my life is that I stuck to my principals and did not visit him when he probably needed me the most . . .
Sorry for the above but this image hit me so strongly . . .
If anyone out there knows a Steven Victor Carlson (aka) Steven Victor McPherson. Originally from around Geelong Victoria, who would be somewhere around 54, 55 who fits the above description.
    Tell him I’m sorry . . .

  • Hugh, no need to apologize. It means so much to me that this stirred these memories. If a piece of art can do that then I have done more than create an image for myself.
Your comments made me think & I have added a written piece to it if you want to take a 2nd look sometime.
Thank you again for your wonderful words.

  • Do not fear Kelvin, I have already talked my husband into modeling for me so look out. . .
I saw your Dragan & you have done very well with it. You’re just not quite old enough looking (a good thing :o) – you will need to find some wrinkeld people I think. Have you seen Eeva’s? She is a genious with this effect.
