    Looks magnificent on that colour.
Fine linework as normal. Smoke positioning is a bit abstract, unless he’s standing in front of a burning car.

  • Scott Robinson replied

    Why thank you..
That`s exactly what I was hoping to imply by trying to make it look like it was behind him. Leaving a little carnage in his wake.

May or may not have worked..

  • o0OdemocrazyO0o

    o0OdemocrazyO0o

    the purple is very clever…
how does the purple come out on yellow? (being opposite colours and all)

  • Scott Robinson replied

I`ve Printed it here, and it looks superb.
    I`m 100% confident in Rb`s print quality..

Those things combined, I`m sure it`d look fine.

The metallic reflections are spot on Scott.

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks Damien..they were actually a bugger to get looking rightish..

Fantastic work mate – the lighter linework really makes the solids pop!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks Mate, that`s one of the 3 things I was playing with here

Wow scott…. A skeleton head of a deathracer… I couldn’t possibly think of such an awesome design. I would really want to think of something as cool as this… But I guess you have to leave the pros do what they’re best at. I must say Scott you always bring something new to the table with each design. well done

  • Scott Robinson replied

I`m glad you`re liking it Tom..
I`m having fun trying out new things, even if it is in the form of one of the oldest icons (skulls)..

  • SvenS

    SvenS

Awesome! Love the way you made this!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Go Deathracer.. Go Deathracer… Go Deathracer…. Go!! Mach, Go, Go, Go, Go!!

always worth the wait for a new Robinson… very impressive Scott!! I love the way you’re always looking for new techniques, styles and effects!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Ha! Thanks Pip, never seen that version before…

I`m just glad people are enjoying the stuff I do.

  • Lucan Industries (© misterkhan 1995)

It works. Looks evil as fuck on black.

  • Scott Robinson replied

    Night Racer.

  • Lucan Industries (© misterkhan 1995)

    Lucan Industri...

Reminds me of Redford’s character in ‘The Sting’ which is one of my favourite films, totally ace. And then sort of remade by dead people, which would be cool, and most of them probably are anyway.

  • Scott Robinson replied

    Zombie Sting?

I`m glad you`re liking this Lucan, I`ve been working on this “High Class Low Brow” (for want of a better description) type theme for a little while now.

Dignified english gentleman meets day of the dead might be a better description. Working towards a series of four skate graphic panels in the long run.

It was a wow, until I followed his Lordships advice and had a look on black.

    Now it’s a phwoah!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks Cath, I played with the colours combinations for a fair while to get something passable on both light & dark tees.

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hey thanks Lily, glad you like it.

  • Pip Gerard

    Pip Gerard

it does look sensational on black too!! you should post a black version too.

  • Scott Robinson replied

I would, but for some reason, I have issues with posting different colourways of the same design…

Call it part of my nuerosis…

  • BigFatRobot

    BigFatRobot

Man, you just get better and better!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hahaha, thanks Mike.. I thought I`ve been backsliding!

  • Pip Gerard

    Pip Gerard

even when the difference between the two images on the different colours is almost like chalk and cheese? ... I would think it so great to see the two side by side in your portfolio… just my opinion. I can understand your nueroisis about it though… completely.. but in this circumstance I reckon its different.

  • Scott Robinson replied

I can see where you`re coming from Pip, beleive me…

The thing is though, I made sure this did work on both ends of the spectrum. I like the fact that they give different overall feelings on a different background. That amuses the hell out of me. Plus, if I was to do a specific colourway for just the black T, it`d be pretty much exactly what this is now..

The problem I encounter is, My work is very high contrast. Normal black and white.. I use the blacks to show depth and shadow, so if I use a black T, I have to go a few shades lighter than black for shadowing, which makes the shadows look like highlights, and confuses the image overall.

Using the ranges of purple like i have here, there`s enough variance that the depth is still achieveable, without taking it too far into looking like a photo negetive of my original intent.

    I think that makes sense.. dosen`t it? see… Neurosis…haha

  • Pip Gerard

    Pip Gerard

the thrill of clicking on the darker then lighter shades is like a lovely suprise.. I must admit… and now that I think about it… that would be lost if on two different tees. I just hope enough people when looking at this will notice and take the opportunity to click on the black version to see the very cool transformation.
    Maybe if I scream it… they’ll notice more… ;)
Y’ALL – MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THIS VERY COOL DESIGN IN BLACK TOO!! YOU’RE IN FOR A WICKED SURPRISE!!

  • ayarti

    ayarti

I second the ‘looks evil as fuck on black’ remark.

Great work Scott. You’re good at finding ways to make skulls look new again!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Haha, Thanks Ayarti.. I guess if you`ve been drawing skulls since you were about 12 years old, you have to do something to keep them fresh..

  • o0OdemocrazyO0o

    o0OdemocrazyO0o

sweet i jsut know that sometimes the old opposite colours can be a problem… Pip is right it is cool on black too
    another great tasty tee

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks Demo, Glad you`re enjoying it.

  • ayarti

    ayarti

Haha, would be interesting to see an evolution of your skull drawing from age of 12 to present.

It just occurred to me that this piece has a bit of a fear and loathing in las vegas vibe to it. Mainly because of the cigarette i guess.

  • Scott Robinson replied

I had to use a cigarette holder thingy, because I`ve got another couple planned.. Can`t use all my ideas in one design and all that.

Well, I`d like to see that too really, I`m not all that sure they`ve change that much. Crayon or Vector, there`s no such thing as a bad skull..

  • o0OdemocrazyO0o

    o0OdemocrazyO0o

i suppose it does have that fear in loathing thing… its kinda cool though because you think of this skeleton dude zooming at crazy speeds but with this delicate cigarette with a lazy plume of smoke…

  • Scott Robinson replied

Haha.. Well it`s cool to think that this can make you picture anything. That`s a sucess on it`s own.

I was picturing old school racer, not quite zooming, but a good rate of knots for the car of the day. The smoke was supposed to suggest destruction behind him, like he`d just put someone to the wall or something.

The feelings all the same though.. which is a good thing

HA! Saw this my Image Feed straight away and said “that’s gotta be Scotts”. Brilliant stuff mate. Really diggin the lighter outlines! 3 purple shades all up?

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hey Cheers mate, I was going to send this to you the morning for review, but got carried away.. went back over it, and was pretty sure it was complete.

Yep, 3 different shades.. Which was fun really. For all intents and purposes this could have just as easily been a B&W image, but I`m getting back into playing with colour, even if I am still avoiding fills.
