Experimental T-Shirt

Scott Robinson

Experimental

Just like the name suggests, i`m just playing with some random thoughts today.

It`s a juxtaposition of 2 images, (genius or madman) I`m trying to play with which image will be more apparent on different colour, and different distances.

I forgot to mention earlier, that this is an experiment in ways of viewing,. It`s Einstein, for the most part one of the most creative minds the world has ever seen, or alternatively, The creator of one of the most descrutive forces known to man. Different viewpoints, or in this case colurs lead to different images.

I`d love to hear any thoughts you might have, ideas, suggestions,..

I like it! Interesting to note that the strength of either of the 2 images relies a bit on which colour t-shirt you use, so if you were to put it up for sale (and why not?) you’d have to think a bit about what colours you’d want it available in.

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hey James, thanks for the feedback. I guess that`s one of the things I was playing with, with colour make which design more promiment, which would I choose etc etc.

I didn`t put it up for sale because.. um, I didn`t feel right about asking money for an experiment? I guess it hold it`s own enough to warrant it being for sale though,.. I`ll change that.

Thanks for your thoughts. Most appreciated.

works really well Scott! nice one.

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks JLBT, seems to be workiing dosen`t it? I`ve been sitting here flicking through the colours to see which bring out which design element. Fun stuff.

Interesting indeed. Darker colours work for both images, but the skull gets lost on lighter ones aye? Nice experiment.

  • Scott Robinson replied

Thanks NIck, gotta do something to keep myself thinking. The skull is a little lost on the lighter T`s, I`m pretty sure i`d still be visable to a degree printed.

Experiments are always worth doing it seems.

This is cool Scott. When you view the design on a darker tee (take black for example) the red lines have the appearance of sitting on top of the skull which really works well. I think it’s because the two shapes have really well defined edges. When you view it on a lighter tee I feel like it doesn’t have the same impact as the lighter lines sort of blend into the background a bit more? I’ve just read what Nick said above and I think I’ve made exactly the same point but in a much more long winded way!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hey Nat, I`m just glad to have your opinion on it.

The idea behind it was, you could choose the way in viewing the man himself. Albert Eintein, classed as one of the most brillant minds ever, yet also part creator of one of the most descructive forces we`ve ever known. Pick the darker way of viewing, get the darker message, and vice versa for the lighter T`s.

I guess experimental really does describe it, but I think I`ll play with this idea a little more, see if I can`t get a more consistent result.

In short, thanks for your thoughts mate,.

that was so cool moving from the lightest colour tee’s to the darkest and seeing the transformation!! Just incredible!! wow! a new and fun red bubble tee experience!!

  • Scott Robinson replied

Fun huh? I had this little idea throughout the day today, and just fiddled with it until I could get different images to be more pronounced by using different backgrounds. Glad you`re liking it Pip.

    It’s Einstein isn’t it??

  • Scott Robinson replied

Oh yeah, It`s Einstein. As i think I said to Nat above, It`s all about ways of viewing. Eintein, Brillant creator, or bringer of the most descructive forces we`ve ever seen. The choice is yours.pick a colour.

Bit literal obviously, yet an idea worth pursuing none-the-less!

The best to see both seems to be the grass green and the Teal.. but then would look different again in print.
This would be a perfect tester printing tee to see how it looks wouldn’t it.

Yeah, I figure I may do just that, I`m pretty sold on the Black though. I find I look cleaner, longer in black.

Thanks Simon, the idea struck me as kind of strange, but once I thought a little about it, it seemed to work itself out. I`ll keep playing.

Great design, I’m feeling a bit sorry for Einstein though.
Shame you cant change the colour of the T whilst your wearing it…..um…you could repeat the design over a grid of different colured squares (3×3?) showing the transformation from one image to the other….too warhole?

  • Scott Robinson replied

Hey thats a pretty solid idea! Showing the transition like that.

I know it`s a bit harsh towards Einstein, and I really don`t have any solid opinion on him or his work, he was just the first person I could think of that could be seen in such mulitple extremes.

I was experimenting with a similar treatment last year. Completely different idea though. I was trying to splice together 3 different shots of the same face, but at slight different angles, using masked slivers of each shot and compiling them as i went down the face. It was a fun little experiment, and seeing this brought back memories of it.

I love the concept behind this one, it takes it from an experiment to piece of art.
