My FreeQee entry - Bunnisattva
Heres some images of my entry into the FreeQee exhibition…
Thanks to all those who attended on Friday night, I had a great time..
Sadly though, these images are all I have left of the little guy, as he has been given a new home on someone elses shelf…
The basic premise is that we were all given the blank version of this figurine, and had to customise it in any way we wished. I went the fabrication route over the paintjob.
Walk Tall little Bunnisattva..
Devan Foster
nicely done Scott. (Reminds me of a character from Princess Mononoke.)
Scott Robinson
Cheers Devan..
I`m not familiar with that charector, But i`ll go see what I can find.
Originally, I was going to do a big evil robot style thing, But after looking at the figure for a while, I had to do something a bit more upbeat…Something with a big grin on it,
Craig Goldsmith
Awesome, looks great.

Hey scott, sorry I missed this one too… maybe when the kids a bit older haa ha… I am absolutely charmed by your use of textiles actually. Not something I expected from ya. Maybe there could be a career for you in dolls clothes hee heee. (god, you’d be a better designer then whoever dresses those damn bratz dolls, not getting started there).
bunnisattva looks so wise, doesn’t he.
kookylane
i really like his Budha like expression, totally cool!! Nice one Scott!
Danny
So am i right in assuming you did all the painting , clothes and accessories?
If so.
It makes it all the more betterer.
Congratulations

This is really cool !

Scott, Reminds me a little of Zatoichi. Even with the smile. Looks great. The clogs are great as well. Fabrication looks great.
Are you familiar with TokyoPlastic?
Scott Robinson
Cheers Kath& Kookylane..I didn`t expect it from me either.. Was fun though..
Danny, Yep.. Few missions to Spotlight for the suede, drew up a template to make the robes, put all the robes together, Made the little hat from an old tablemat, made the slippers from a “do not disturb” plywood door hanger, glued them all together, few bits of leather for decoration, few trips to the bead shop.. Got the little happy face on it, Done!
Glad people dig it, it was something different for me..
Michman, Not overly familiar, but when I was researching what people had done before, I became aware of a very large culture surrounding these things.. I`d like to learn more about it actually.. You do these things too?
Michael Alesich
Zatoichi is the blind samurai from the movie Zatoichi, many different incarnations of the story.
Tokyoplastic is an art group I believe based in London, heavy japanese influence and amazing animation. www.tokyoplastic.com is there basis,
The toys (and they are called toys, though loosely as they’re more art) are from a company called my plastic heart www.myplastcheart.com that do vinyl toys and apparently now plushies. Your stuff would be great done like that.
davecurtain

Great work Scott. I didn’t end up getting there Friday night, but went and checked them out Saturday.
I was impressed with the overall quality of all the work and the diverse styles represented. It was excellent to see them modified beyond the norm, with accessories and add-ons rather than simply paint.
I picked yours right away. I recognised the style from your My own personal Buddha piece. I really like the way you barely painted the Qee itself and I think it adds to the serene feeling he portrays. Congratulations on the sale :)
For more Qee related goodness check out Toy2R, Qeester (have ordered from here before, prompt and reliable) and of course Kid Robot.

Dude, that fucking rocks!

Awesome work Scott, all those handicraft and needlework lessons have really come in handy eh ?
Scott Robinson
Many thanks Peoples!
Dreeft, So glad you could go see it, It surely was something different eh? I`d seen a few different works before, but nothing like to range and scope of modiffications as was on display..
I`m seriously going to have to do more of these, I just can`t tell you how attached I became to that happy little man while working on him for so long…
Sjem, You know it , I`m quilting a scarf as I type! Needlepoint is the way of the future!

Scott,
FreeQue is very cool, an awesome start for a series. Kidrobot.com has figures I adore to collect and you have the talent to create some unique characters. I collect Boglins, swamp creatures from the 80’s. If FreeQue gets lonely, he can play with Dwork, Drool, Vlobb or their little friends Squat and Squit. For now most of my work is on artwanted.com/masterofthemaze where the boglins enjoy showing off their antics. Soon I will upload them to meet the redbubblers. They will make awesome t-shirts once I learn how to make them. If FreeQue freaks out, I host the healing journey dealing with medical and psychological issues. I am a Psychologist and Bogologist specializing in
figures of the imagination. All your characters are welcome to join!

wow this is very very nice, there was a famous samurai one with an eye patch… (i dont know much about vinyl toys) but your one is sweet I def like the material idea and the pray beads etc look like wood :D
fantastico!
this would easily win at “patchtogether.com” etc
Scott Robinson replied
Thanks Demo.. I`ve never heard of patchedtogether.. I`ll go take a look soon.
The beads are wood, the fabric was a killer to get right, fun project though..
You ever tried your hand at these?
Pip Gerard
Sensational!!! I’m jealous of the person who has it on their shelf. :)
So did you create your buddha before or after this cause I see such wonderful similarities with the two… the beads… the face?
Scott Robinson replied
Hahahah! Good eye`s Pip!
This came well after the buddha, I actualloy modified the buddha`s face a little to make this one..
The beads, robe etc just kinda went with the theme..
