Bubble Torch
Featured in Tone it Down, November 5, 2009.
One of my favorite summer time activities is to play with bubbles. Or, should I say have someone else play with bubbles so I can take pictures :)
We use a very large wand to create supersize bubbles. I love watching them flow out of the wand, separate, and then float up into the sky, sparkling in the sun.
Photo taken with a Canon EOS Rebel XTi and 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens.

Renee you are so clever,it just goes to show how deceptive avatar photographs can be :)
hehe.
Renee Dawson replied
Are you saying I should change my avatar photo Mr. Onions? The colors are fabulous in the original. Looks like a fireball!

I bet in colour {note the CORRECT spelling} it looks like a fireball.
Renee Dawson replied
Color or colour – I am thinking since I am in Canada I can choose whichever version I choose depending on my mood! :)

The word color can be spelled two ways…the right way and my way, there both the same. LOL (it had to be said) :-}}
Fun stuff shooting bubbles. Reminds me of a Hubble image of a far off star nursery.

Amazing!
And so much fun trying to see all kinds of things in these shapes. :-)
Would you mind sharing your lighting setup for this fantastic shot?
Renee Dawson replied
Thank you very much Christian. There was nothing special about the set-up for this one. The original bubble shot was taken in natural daylight in the late afternoon. The background was the woods across the road from our house so it was quite dark to begin with. I converted the color image to b&w and darkened the midtones & shadows further.

Thanks for that info, Renee (Renée?)!
You did a great job in the editing, I must say. I just love that high contrast bw!

I don’t know if it should work like that, but this made me smile :) Wonderful work.
Renee Dawson replied
Thank you Matt. I don’t know how these huge bubbles work (what’s in the mix) but if you have just the right amount of wind it is great fun! :)

OMG ! aren’t we clever ! I would have never thought of doing this in black and white . It looks like you are summoning up a Genie ! Ok now your just making me feel inadequate ;-/
Renee Dawson replied 16 days ago
lol….....yes I’m still doing bubbles but not as much as last summer :) The color version of this is really cool as well – full of different colors. I may upload it some day.
Marvin Hayes 15 days ago
You should take the color version and make the bubble coming out of a Aladdin’s lamp ;
) Just a thought ;)
